It is planned for the website to display on the website the number of registered players (at some point).

Yes, another game which isnt really mainstream is haven and hearth and because theyre arnt many players its good to know if anyone is online at all
Actually, most players don't go on the website very often since the website does not give new information very often.
What is more meaning full to me is (the website compute that, but it is currently just for myself) the number of "active playerd". It is the number of unique players who have played the game at least once in the last 24 hours or in the last 7 days.
In the same way, I have the number of "active website user" on the website: The number of unique players that have visited the website.
