How about a seperate multiplayer ranking?
I think that is needed, because the difficulty is kind of seperate and it would be nice if the rankinggames would be ordered by players, so that you can select one game and see who played it.

Second this.

Also a chief complaint I heard tonight after conning two mates to play a few games of multiplayer is the permadeath. I know it's almost going back to what I mentioned earlier with a new game mode but can we have a non ranked multiplayer survival mode with a respawn for players?

Watching a poor newbie getting chewed up by archers and having to restart so she can keep playing is painful :P

Actually it doesn't even have to be a new mode. Just an option in create game. Respawn - On/Off.

Put a little note in to say that respawn on games aren't ranked and bam.

I agree that it might be interesting to have a newbie mode with the possibility to re-spawn a limited number of time.
It would be the "easy mode".
I note the idea.

But don't forget that you can resuscitate your team mates by applying the "life potion" (the blue potion) on the grave of your team mate (you have one minute to do it).
The blue potion is not very expensive, so you probably can use it several times.

If I get it right, separate ranking for Hard-Mode? No. Why?
Basically, if you want to play hard mode for highscore, and not the fun of playing hard, then why? No one forces you to play it.
And when you get to top 10 while playing hard, then you will feel good.

My other thought is that players shouldn't lose their items upon reviving. Basically all you get from reviving player is just loss of 10 gold. However revival with starting gear is wrong too, as it could lead to abuse letting player drop gold and wheat and then revive to get more.
Right now when you can't join started games, I guess the inventory could be saved to playerID upon death, and loaded upon revive. Also the grave should stay longer.

Also, after Day 48 I guess player could choose to continue or start NG+. They start on fresh map, with ther inv resetted, and letting them keep their workers, mut clearing their inventory too. The scheme would be resetted too, meaning night 4+ only has one mother instead of five.
In highscore, you would get located on par with continue equivalent. Monsters would increase their strength equally to continue, so night 1+ zombies would be as strong as night 49.

No, my intention was to propose another Highscore for Multiplayer games in generel, because I think they have a total different feeling.

1.

The fact to separate hard mode to normal mode in the high score is also a controversial subject.

I don't think it is currently possible to reach the top 10 of the rank in hard mode.

What I will do is to but some filter button ("normal mode only" "hard mode only").
And in addition, the ranking will be composed of two numbers: The global ranking and the ranking in the given difficulty.

In this way you can still try to beat normal mode score with hard mode score, and you can also have a proper ranking just for hard mode.

2.

The revival with starting gear is a bug -- You are not supposed to get anything when you are revived.
Also, I'll increase the duration of the grave and I'll add a new feature:

When a player goes in his grave (from a past life), he can get back all his objects.
This will take some time to be done (something like 5s).
However, a tax need to be applied to penalize the death of player.

I am thinking to three solutions:

- Take a percentage of the gold of the player.

- Take a percentage of the item of the player (selected randomly).

- Increase the price of the "Life potion" (the potion to revive player) every time one is bought. For example, 10gold --> 15gold --> 25gold --> 40gold --> 60gold

What do you think?

3.

Finally, the "End of the game" is not decided yet.
But, once the game is over, the idea to give to the player the choice to restart the game, or to continue to enjoy peacefully his fortress is good.
However, you really need to have a lot of workers to beat the lvl 49-52 difficulty (event if it is only zombies).
And if the player does not have these workers, he is kind of skewed.
I'll have to think about it.
Thanks for the ideas :)

Tricky tricky. Taking an item is potentially brutal if it targets useful inventory and not just one block or one wheat, nice hardcore option. But it would necessitate scanning through your inventory to see what you've lost unless you give the player a pop up message like "You have averted Death's grasp. But Death has made off with your <item name>"

Taking a percentage of gold is prone to abuse as you can always stash your gold before nightfall. Piggy banking became a necessary component in Terraria.

I'd probably go with the increasing cost for life potions. It carries an escalating penalty without being prone to abuse or rage.

But you can always have both the potential inventory loss and increasing life potion costs on hardcore :P

Hmm isn't it hard enough as it is? Just think about it, when you die, the player must pay 10 gold (which isn't little in the beginning and middle part of the game) and needs to get to your grave in under 1 minute, which is kind of hard and dangerous when you're in the later half of the game where you have a lot of monsters crawling around.

I disagree with penaltys for reviving, even in HARDCORE, because I think we should promote Jolly Cooperation instead of bashing people for doing small mistakes, maybe even for AFKing. The loss of all equipment is not cool at all, and will make many friends go "Be cursed ye, Achoum, and thy entertainment script! Farewell bretheren, thou shalt push onwards solely thyself, as my morale hast been sabotaged."

I have a great idea. Before we start arguing like old grannies we test things HARDCORE way.
(if any old granny is reading this, I'm sorry for implying your stereotypical arguing behavior, I didn't mean to insult any old grannies, I like them! But, in like, old smart people giving smart stories and advice, because I prefer a bit younger girls. I don't think there is something wrong with being attracted to older people, It's just not in my type. Sorry.)

I don't think it is currently possible to reach the top 10 of the rank in hard mode.
No one in their sane mind would do that...
