How about more growable food sources that have different growth times and refill different amounts of hunger?

If you mean adding more ways of obtaining food, like fishing, (you can fish with Fishing rod made from Wood/Sticks and Rope. Obviously the string would get used up after several uses and you would have to replace it.) then Yes.
If you mean growing potatoes, carrots, etc. In other words giving variety of what you can plant on the ground, then No. Because it's pointless. It's survival game, not FarmVille.

There are currently 3 ways to get food:
- Gathering berries
- Farming wheat
- Breading sheep
- Buying food to the shop keeper
In the next version, I will add the culture of bees and honey. Honey will be a rare resource that you will be able to eat, use to get the workers to work faster, and to use to get more workers. Bees will also be potentially a weapon.
I like the fishing idea. Especially if this is the workers that are fishing for you.

While it may be a bit difficult to enjoy the added variety of foods considering the day-to-day scramble of getting defenses/basics taken care of just before nightfall, I would very much like to see it implemented!

Yes the game isn't farmville BUT, this is a very practical idea because if you had the option to grow different kinds of food sources that cost different amounts of money, grow at different rates and restore different amounts of hunger then there is tonnes of extra customisation of gameplay to be had, you could play in your own way and style to suit your own liking and at the cost of some simple spriting and minor addition of code (in theory) :)

Once you get past a certain threshold, food is never really a problem. The given suggestion is redundant and does not provide any more depth to the game.

To Mindfreezer:
I completely see where you're coming from, but i have to disagree. I think part of the reason food management becomes unimportant is because currently, it's way to easy to mass produce wheat. If there were other food sources, it would force you to look at your base development differently. For example, Azebu's fishing idea would force you to build some sort of dock/fishing area that wouldn't normally fit into your defensive plan. I think more food sources could really push the need to expand your base. If nothing else, more food means more ingredients for the up and coming alchemy table that Achoum has been talking about.

I certainly see both sides here, but I have to agree with the more food options. It certainly can't hurt to have wheat, which gives you one food and sprouts in a day, and a potato, which gives two and grows in two, and something big like a watermelon, which gives three and grows in three. This would affect game play much more than people think. Sure, you get a huge output with wheat, and your food worries are practically taken care of after the first boss but you have to plant four or five squares to get to that threshold (And more in multi-player). And that's fine! However, you could grow watermelon instead, it only taking up one square, and therefore easier to defend, while getting the same food output.
Just a thought.

In my opinion, if you're not sitting on a big pile of wheat after at least night 4, you're doing it wrong.

Yea they do need to add more food. food is so low on the first 4 days after using your berry's and having to wait for a bear to start farming and collecting more... maybe herding animals and fences or something plus more food types might do it besides those damn mushrooms -___- always taking my health because i am always starving lol.

That sounds great, the easiest is to use carrots and berries that are already there and make them replantable.

maybe this is the place to put it maybe not, i'm not to sure so sorry if its not. But if new foods were to be introduced then there could be maybe food that increase your hunger for more than one bar so to speak maybe like say a golden apple. You knock down a tree and there's a chance it drops an apple then find some gold and bring it to a "cooks" bench then boom you have a healing fulfilling snack that maxes your hunger and makes you lose it a little bit less for a little bit of time, stuff like that :) tell me what you think about it.
