After spending more than 30 minutes getting my game to start (which is an entirely different story) I ran into a brick wall. The game window is slightly larger than my laptop screen. It's just large enough that I can't see the important information at the bottom. It won't allow me to move it up past the screen edge, so I tried to change the screen resolution. Every time I press "Apply Resolution", the game crashes.
I paid good money for this game. I get that it's in beta form, but I can't even play the dang thing. What gives?

Hello,
Yes, B&D is still in Beta state. And so, some bugs are style appearing from time to time. Hopefully, people report them to me, and I can solve them.
Back to your problem.
The default resolution of B&D is 1024x768px.
So if this resolution is too large for your PC, I suppose this is a kind a mini computer?
Can you tell me exactly what kind of computer you have, what type of OS (Windows, Linux, MacOs, etc.) you have, and what is the actual resolution of your screen.
Anyway, you can put the resolution of the game to 640x480px or 800x600px.
Do you game crashed when you put those resolution?
Also, do you use the full screen mode? or the windows mode?
You can try to switch that.
If you computer is very old, you can also disable the shaders.
Also, you said having trouble installing the game ("After spending more than 30 minutes getting my game to start"). Can you tell me more about it so I can figure what is wrong and solve it?
Thanks.
A.

I appreciate the quick response!
I have a 17 inch Toshiba Satellite C655. Not a top-of-the line computer, but definitely not total junk. It runs on Windows 7 and has a screen resolution of 1366 x 768.
I tried all of the resolution options and each time I tried to "Apply" it crashed the game. If I try to enable "Full Screen" it also crashes. I tried turning shaders off and it didn't fix the problem.

Now I'll try my best to describe the issues I had when trying to start the game.
I first downloaded the application, not the .jar file. When I tried to open it, nothing happened. I tried to open it again, and it went to the loading screen, but it said my game was out of date and when I tried to update it, the game crashed. I tried to load it again and the same thing happened.
So, I updated Adobe and downloaded the .jar file. I opened the jar file and it also said my game was not up to date. I tried to update it, and it froze at 0.00 downloaded. I tried 3 more times to open the .jar file and each time it froze at 0.00 when I tried to update. The 4th time I used the .jar file, it downloaded the update. Then, the game crashed.
I tried to open the application file again, and magically, it worked. It will now load the game and I can play, except for the resolution issue.
I hope you can make sense of that and I hope it helps!

Thanks for the description of the problem.
This seems to be 2 different problems (maybe related to each other).
You seems to have used the "launcher". The launcher is a little program that keep the game up to date. Lately, some people have complained about that. I will have to work on on that.
In the mean time, you can directly download the "Jar" version of the game on the site web (it might not necessarily solve the crashing problem you are experiencing, but it is worth trying).
Now, I am not familiar with the model of your computer, but it does not seems to have a graphic card (according to http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Satellite-C655-S5119-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B0047ZHB92). That might be the reason of the crash (This is speculation).
To figure out exactly what is going on, can you send me the "error log file" of the address
[email protected].
This file is named "console.log". You will find this file in the directory "%userprofile%\.buildanddefend".
Thank you, and sorry for the inconvenience.

I used the .jar file, but now it's not working on my computer at all.
I will email you the error logs. I have several.
Good luck with your game. I really hope I can get this working because this game seems really fun. There's a lot of potential here so I hope you can get it working!!

Maybe I'll say stupid things but I the directory "%userprofile%\.buildanddefend" there is a file named "config.properties".
This file is your game config and you can change your résolution in it.

I really hope to make the game work on your computer too
So, I am waiting for the logs :)
Lunatime is right. You can try to manually change the resolution of the game in the "config.properties" file located in "%userprofile%\.buildanddefend". This is also something worth trying.
What you can do also, is to delete this file (config.properties). If you do so, next time the game starts, a default version will be re-created.
Cheers,

I ended up fixing the problem by changing my laptop's screen resolution to 1280 x 768.
I think I'll try the two solutions you and Lunatime suggested because I don't like the new screen resolution! :)
